About the job
In this role, you will perform electrical duties including installing, modifying and maintaining efficient operating condition electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, equipment, motors, instruments, and analyzers. Troubleshooting, repairing and/or modifying and replacing damaged, malfunctioning and worn electrical lines, circuits systems, fixtures, controls, equipment, instruments, and analyzers for an advanced Class 4 water and wastewater facilities.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory:
- Must be licensed in the Province of Ontario as a Maintenance/Construction Electrician (Ontario Reg. 32 Class 309A or R.R.O. 1970 as amended by 78-71) or as an Industrial Electrician (License 442A, Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act, R.S.O. 1990).
- Willing to obtain Operator-in-Training (OIT), as specified in O.Reg. 128/04 of the Safe Drinking Water Act and O.Reg. 129/04 of the Ontario Water Resources Act.
- Valid Class G driver's license.
- Must be available to be on-call after regular working hours.
- Must be willing to work shifts.
Required Knowledge includes:
- Thorough knowledge and experience in standby power generation, maintenance and repair of equipment for the distribution, safety and use of electrical energy at different voltages.
- Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Environmental legislation and the policies, procedures and regulations that apply to this work and have practical knowledge and be conversant with the current Ontario Electrical Safety Code and its practices.
- Thorough knowledge of the maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of field wiring and devices, control circuits, remote terminal units and data communications circuits, pneumatic and electronic instrumentation, power wiring layout and installation.
- Knowledge of electrical controls and monitoring as applied to programmable logic controllers, motor types, motor control center, lockouts and grounding.
- Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, including incoming power sources, step down transformers, safety relays and distribution panels.
- Knowledge of HVAC and air control systems repair. Knowledge of the processes, procedures and equipment used in the relevant advanced water treatment operations/distribution and collection systems.
- Knowledge of instruments, calibration methods, analyzers, infrared thermography and software tools.
Required Skills and Abilities include:
- Problem solving and analytical skills in order to make timely decisions and address work priorities and emergencies.
- Ability to work as a team and to take the initiative when required.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex operational control devices.
- Interpersonal skills to provide direction, advice and recommendations to contractors, equipment suppliers, project staff and other Agency personnel.
- Good oral and written communication skills to give advice and instructions and keep logs.
- Ability to use and understand operating and maintenance manuals, blueprints, single-line diagrams and other technical specifications.
