About the job

In this role, you will:

• Oversee the delivery of efficient and quality pharmacy services in a correctional facility
• Review and evaluate pharmacy services to ensure ministry standards are met
• Manage the security of pharmaceutical and medical supplies and equipment
• Manage the budget for the pharmacy
• Develop and deliver pharmacy related educational resources
• Provide professional expertise and consultative advice to management and staff
• Assist in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of business continuity and crisis management processes

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You are a registered Pharmacist in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• You have knowledge of drug theory, evidence-based pharmaceutical practice, current treatment modalities and community pharmacy resources
• You have knowledge of Ontario College of Pharmacists professional standards and guidelines, as well, legislation related to the practice of pharmacy (e.g., Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Federal Food and Drug Act, Mental Health Act, etc.)
• You have knowledge of security provisions in a pharmacy
• You have professional skills to utilize the latest techniques and practices in pharmacy

Analytical and Coordination Skills

• You can analyze, plan and coordinate pharmacy services and operations to meet the requirements of the facility
• You can exercise sound judgment in the planning and delivery of pharmacy programs and services

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You can disseminate pharmaceutical information and provide explanations to staff and offenders
• You can provide consultation and advice to staff, management and other healthcare professionals

Supervisory and Other Essential Skills

• You can provide guidance, direction and supervision to staff
• You have knowledge of quality management and improvement techniques, as well as the auditing process to review and evaluate pharmacy services
• You have basic financial skills to prepare the budget

Hours of Work

• The hours of work are 36.25 hours per week. You are expected to work rotating shifts of up to 10 hours in length in the pharmacy unit that provides services to the Maplehurst Correctional Complex up to 16 hours a day, 7 days per week.
