Attention Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) of Ontario Candidates!!

Are you working toward your CPA designation? Join the Ontario Internal Audit Division (OIAD) and gain valuable experience in a supportive, professional finance environment.

We're looking for motivated CPA candidates to join our team through the Ontario Internal Audit Division's CPA Pre-Approved Program Route (PPR). This 32-month program gives you hands-on experience in areas like auditing & assurance, financial reporting, strategy & governance and management accounting, everything you need to meet the CPA Ontario practical experience requirements.

The CPA candidate will work on real assurance and advisory projects that support government goals, with guidance from experienced managers and a CPA mentor. As part of OIAD, you will be involved in exciting and very important projects that will help improving the effectiveness of governance, accountability, risk management, and control processes in the Ontario Public Service (OPS).

The CPA candidate must be registered with CPA Ontario and eligible for (or already enrolled in) the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).

By the end of the 32-month contract position, the successful CPA candidate will have completed the practical experience requirements for CPA designation eligibility.

About the job

As a CPA candidate in this role, you'll gain hands-on experience and build the skills needed for your designation. Here's what you'll be doing:

Support risk management: Help teams identify and manage risks in government programs and services by using tools and strategies to assess and reduce potential issues.
Provide insights and advice: Work with clients to improve how they plan, manage change, measure performance, and strengthen internal controls.
Assist with audits and investigations: Take part in a variety of audits, including value-for-money and compliance audits, by gathering information, interviewing stakeholders, and presenting findings.
Coordinate projects: Help plan and carry out audit projects by organizing tasks, researching data, and supporting your team throughout the process.

Mandatory requirements

The successful candidates for this position must be registered with CPA Ontario and be eligible for enrolment in, or be already enrolled in, CPA Ontario's Professional Education Program (PEP).

Financial, Accounting and Audit Experience

You have:

• Knowledge of current audit practices and methodologies
• Experience in auditing, business risk management, internal controls and governance
• Knowledge of current standards relating to internal controls over financial reporting and compliance objectives
• Knowledge of financial and accounting principles (GAAP, PSAB), policies and processes to audit financial reporting and accountability frameworks/processes and ensure the accuracy and integrity of the client's financial information

Risk Assessment and Quality Assurance Experience

You have:

• Theoretical and applied knowledge of risk management frameworks and principles, practices, standards and methodologies (e.g. COSO, COBIT, Sarbanes-Oxley, Enterprise Risk Management, Risk Based Auditing, etc.)
• Knowledge on how to utilize appropriate risk assessment and management methodologies to monitor, evaluate, report risks to senior management and identify risks and adopt risk mitigation strategies
• Knowledge on how to perform design and implement risk assessment and quality assurance tools to meet the needs of government and external clients

Analytical and Problem Solving Skills

You have:

• Analytical and problem solving skills to analyze processes and identify opportunities for improvement in a multi-dimensional environment
• Ability to research and analyse multiple sources of information for the purpose of providing possible options and alternatives (e.g. with regards to the audit program, related risks, etc.)
• Experience in data extraction and analysis of information using spreadsheet and data extraction software (such as MS Excel, IDEA, etc.)
• Experience using audit software and Microsoft office programs such as Outlook

Communication and Collaboration Skills

You have:

• Oral and written communication and presentation skills to ensure reports are clear and concise and effectively communicate important issues to clients
• Experience in preparing audit reports, recommendations, briefing materials, issues analysis and responses and other materials
• Experience to identify options and advise senior management on significant issues resulting from audit findings and risk assessments
• Experience using word processing and presentation software (such as MS Word, PowerPoint, etc.) to help deliver these materials clearly and concisely to clients

Technical Skills:

You have:

• Experience in data extraction and analysis of information using spreadsheet and data extraction software (such as MS Excel, IDEA, etc.)
• Experience using audit software and Microsoft office programs such as Outlook
