About the job

• Lead the analysis, interpretation, and reporting of air quality data, assess and report on the state of Ontario's air quality, evaluate trends, inform decision-making, and support the development and/or improvements of air related policies and programs.
• Develop, refine, and implement methodologies and innovative tools for the analysis and interpretation of complex instrument and environmental data in support of air monitoring and reporting program delivery (e.g., statistical tools, data analytical tools, data visualization tools, automation).
• Lead and/or participate in the creation of technical reports and products that communicate findings clearly to decision-makers, the public, and a range of stakeholders .
• Collaborate with internal and external partners and represent Ontario on national committees, helping shape air related policies and programs ,and practices across jurisdictions.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• University degree in environmental science or a related science (e.g. chemistry, geography).
• The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid G license or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's license upon being hired.

Scientific and Analytical Expertise in Air Quality

• Expertise in the scientific principles of air quality and demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and assess complex air quality data.
• Proficiency in developing and applying new methodologies for environmental data analysis, including various statistical approaches / statistical modeling, data analytical tools, data visualization tools, and automation.
• Experience in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation and data communication protocols and polling for ambient air quality monitoring.

Scientific Communication and Reporting Skills

• Proven scientific writing and presentation skills to prepare and deliver technical reports, briefing notes, and publications for diverse audiences, including senior management and scientific communities.
• Ability to translate complex scientific findings into clear, actionable recommendations and policy-relevant insight.
• Experience in designing and developing data-driven dashboards and visualizations for environmental and scientific data, with the ability to distill complex information and communicate key insights to diverse audiences.

Leadership and Coordination Abilities

• Experience leading scientific initiatives, coordinating technical teams, and guiding staff in data analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
• Ability to set priorities, ensure quality assurance, and represent the ministry on intergovernmental committees.

Interpersonal and Collaborative Skills

• Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work well in teams and liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including other jurisdictions, agencies, and the public.
• Ability to foster collaboration and share expertise across multidisciplinary teams and governmental levels.
