Bring your environmental planning, technical and project management skills to the Ministry of Transportation as an Environmental Planner.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• coordinate the overall environmental component of transportation planning, design, construction and maintenance projects and ensure conformance with environmental legislation, policies and procedures
• provide environmental and process expertise to project managers of transportation projects
• provide input to, and environmental technical support for strategic highway planning and regional participation in municipal planning issues
• provide advanced technical advice regarding the environmental assessment process
• engage and consult with external stakeholders, including through participation in the organization of and attendance at public and external agency meetings, including those which deal with controversial issues.

NOTE: You will be required to travel to areas not accessible by public transit.

What you bring to the team


Environmental Knowledge

• you have demonstrated knowledge of current principles and practices for environmental assessment and protection in Ontario and related environmental legislation and policies
• you have demonstrated knowledge of incorporating environmental avoidance, mitigation, compensation and enhancement into facility planning, design and construction
• you have knowledge of environmental factors associated with transportation planning, design, construction and maintenance, and their application

Transportation Planning Knowledge:

• you have knowledge of transportation planning and design and the federal and provincial environmental approvals, permits and agreements that may be necessary to proceed to facility construction
• you have demonstrated knowledge in identifying impacts associated with facility type, location or design alternatives and their impacts on construction, operation and maintenance

Analytical and Organizational Skills :

• you have analytical, evaluative, problem-solving and interpretive skills to provide advanced technical advice regarding environmental assessments and to resolve complex problems
• you have planning, organizational and project management skills to carry out complex assignments on tight schedules and deadlines with minimal supervision

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• you have excellent oral and written communication skills to prepare correspondence and reports, explain technical information and make presentations.
• you have excellent interpersonal skills and negotiation skills to undertake public and agency consultation and to build and maintain effective working relationships.
