Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region (NWR) serves an area of 478,606 square kilometers. Our jurisdiction extends from the eastern border of Manitoba to the northern border of the State of Minnesota, to Hudson's Bay in the north and White River to the east. The region includes three districts (Kenora, Rainy River and Thunder Bay) and is divided between eastern and central time zones.
Red Lake is located on Highway 105, 177kms north of Highway 17. The Red Lake Detachment provides policing services to the Municipality of Red Lake, the Township of Ear Falls and surrounding area: all within the District of Kenora. In addition, Red Lake Detachment provides operational support to the Pikangikum Police Service.
Red Lake has an approximate population of 4670. The mining, government, tourism and retail sectors provide a stable and expanding local economy with competitive housing market and numerous employment opportunities. Within the Municipality of Red Lake are the communities of Red Lake, Balmertown, Cochenour, McKenzie Island, Starratt-Olsen and Madsen

About the job
• To provide administrative support to Detachment personnel in the co-ordination and processing of administrative services.
• Maintaining up to date records management.
• Transcribing video, audio and written statements.
• Manual and electronic filing.
• Gathering information for our Collision Reporting Centre.
• A variety of clerical & administrative duties.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• The ability to work 12 hours shifts in a 24-hour rotating shift environment.
• Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
• 40 wpm typing speed.
Communication Skills:
• Oral communications skills to clarify the nature of requests received and interpersonal skills to interact with officers.
• Listening skills to elicit vital information from callers regarding incidents.
• Written communication skills to input accurate information, compose correspondence, proofread a variety of documents, compile reports and summarize information.
• Empathy, tact and diplomacy while greeting and responding to requests for service and information from individuals who are sometimes distraught, overly emotional or panicked.
Problem-Solving Skills:
• Reasoning and problem-solving skills to determine the best approach to elicit information from distraught or panicked callers; to assist hearing impaired callers and work through typing errors/inaccuracies; to determine appropriate response.
• Tracking down supporting court documentation for entries, report-ins, etc.
• Identifying and analyzing calls to gain clarity of requests and determines how best to response.
Judgement and Discretion:
• Works in accordance with established manuals, practices and procedures.
• Plan and prioritize work on a daily basis.
• Edits and proofreading changes to documents, reports, letters, etc.
• Exercise discretion, tact and diplomacy when responding to enquires.
