About the job

At the Dorion Fish Culture Station, you will work in a team to:

• assist with the collection and distribution of eggs and fish
• carry out daily fish culture activities, such as water quality, feeding, thinning and sampling
• perform routine maintenance including tank cleaning and equipment maintenance
• observe fish behaviour, mortality trends and densities
• track data and prepare reports
• be responsible for facility control as required, such as on weekends or holidays

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirement:

• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
• You have the ability to obtain a class 'D' licence with a 'Z' endorsement.

Technical knowledge:

• You are knowledgeable of fish culture techniques and hatchery methods and procedures.
• You possess knowledge of the roles, goals and objectives of fisheries management.
• You have a good understanding of related resource management principles for fish and wildlife.

Essential skills:

• You have demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with clients and in a team setting.
• You possess proven analytical and problem solving skills.
• You have strong organizational and time management skills.
• You are proficient with computers and related spreadsheet, database and word processing software.
