Do you have knowledge and experience in program and policy development? Do you have strong communication skills and the ability to develop relationships? If so, the Ministry of the Attorney General, Indigenous Justice Division is seeking your expertise for the role of Program Advisor.
In this exciting and challenging role, you will manage, monitor and evaluate an assigned portfolio of Indigenous Justice Program and Indigenous Courtworker Program transfer payment agencies and foster linkages between Indigenous communities and organizations and other community agencies/supports to assist program clients.
About the job
In this role, you will:
• Provide leadership and advice on Indigenous social issues arising in the context of community development activities to support Indigenous alternative justice projects
• Manage ministry responsibilities in relation to projects and programs for the development, promotion, administration and delivery of alternative justice to Indigenous people in a culturally sensitive manner
• Provide annual estimates, negotiate operational budgets and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
• Design/develop and conduct needs assessments and lead community capacity building training to ensure the interests of the province are met and that local community justice needs are considered
• Provide information regarding Indigenous and non-Indigenous justice concepts, and educate internal staff, crown counsel, support staff, prosecutors, case management coordinators, legal Aid and other appropriate external stakeholders
Positions are located at 720 Bay Street, Toronto and required report to the office a minimum of 3 days per week (subject to change). However, alternate work arrangements may be available.
What you bring to the team
Knowledge and Skills
You have:
• Understanding of Indigenous culture, political developments, self-government objectives, justice approaches and social, historical and cultural history/issues
• Demonstrated community development skills as well as approaches to development, promotion and administration of justice programs for Indigenous people
• Knowledge of program and policy design/development techniques and decision-making processes to coordinate and monitor the development and implementation of operational policies, programs and standards to support a ministry program
Communication, Interpersonal and Influencing Skills
You have:
• Communication skills to respond to information requests, prepare option papers, submissions, briefing notes, house book notes, speaking notes and speeches
• Consultation, mediation, negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills to develop relationships and promote understanding and cooperation among key public sector and Indigenous groups
• Advisory and presentation skills to provide technical knowledge and advice within the ministry and with other jurisdictions including federal, stakeholders and community groups on Indigenous alternatives to justice programs
Analytical and Problem Solving Skills
You can:
• Identify program needs, develop initiatives and coordinate and evaluate programs to improve or strengthen access and delivery of justice services for Indigenous peoples
• Research and synthesize information, identify best practices and develop consistent operational procedures for program delivery throughout the ministry
• Develop educational materials to achieve understanding of Indigenous justice concepts for Indigenous and non-Indigenous groups within and outside of government
