About the job
• Act as clinical lead and provide consultation to case management staff
• Plan and co-ordinate treatment plans and specialized clinical services dedicated to specific groups of offenders
• Prepare psycho-social assessments
• Develop individualized discharge plans in collaboration with Discharge Planner
• Provide individual and group counseling/programs as well as crisis intervention services
• Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings to discuss treatment plans
• Participate in program planning and evaluation for existing and/or new programs
• Plan, develop, and co-ordinate social work educational programs for staff and students
• Other duties, as assigned
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You have a Master of Social Work degree from a recognized University with a clinical focus OR extensive equivalent experience in the field
• You are currently registered as a Social Worker in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
Specialized Knowledge and Experience
• You have extensive knowledge of principles, theories, and practices of social work in order to provide direction/supervision to the team as well as consultation to health care professionals, community agencies, and correctional staff
• You have knowledge of and experience with psycho-social clinical assessment and therapeutic principles/techniques in order to provide clinical services to offenders
• You have motivational counseling skills and experience providing counseling to individuals and groups
• You have experience working with community resources/services and organizations in order to co-ordinate services for offenders and formulate discharge plans
• You have understanding of the justice system in Ontario as well as ability to understand and apply relevant legislation such as the Ministry of Correctional Services Act
• You are able to acquire knowledge of and comply institutional policies and procedures
Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills
• You are able to participate in and provide consultation to multidisciplinary discussions on diagnoses and treatment plans
• You can establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with staff and residents
• You are able to deliver educational presentations to institutional staff
• You have written communication skills to write assessment reports and program evaluations, correspondence and case summaries
• You have demonstrated tact and sensitivity in order to work with offenders
Assessment, Analytical, and Problem-Solving Skills
• You can evaluate program effectiveness and consider various factors in order to make appropriate recommendations
• You are able to assess offenders using multiple information sources and formulate treatment plans
• You can develop specialized programs for specific offender groups
Organizational and Coordination Skills
• You can oversee, coordinate, and provide guidance/coaching to the team
• You are able to act as clinical lead as well as develop, oversee, and monitor programs
• You can co-ordinate education and training programs for unit staff
