Advanced Imaging Expertise at the Core of Forensic Investigation

Join the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service as a Forensic Imaging Technologist. In this specialized role, you'll be at the forefront of postmortem diagnostics, capturing high-resolution images that help unravel the mysteries behind sudden and unexpected deaths across the province.

Working alongside forensic pathologists, you'll be responsible for the acquisition of high-quality advanced postmortem imaging to support autopsies and assist with the identification of human remains. Your work will provide important contributions to investigations that impact families, communities and the justice system.

About the job

Postmortem Imaging Acquisition: perform high-quality X-ray and CT or MRI imaging of deceased individuals, ensuring accurate post-processing and archiving in support of medicolegal investigations
• Image Quality Evaluation and Protocol Optimization: assess and adjust imaging parameters to meet diagnostic standards, adapting protocols to the unique conditions of postmortem imaging
• Identification Support: produce comparative imaging to assist forensic pathologists and coroners in identifying unknown individuals
• Equipment Oversight and Maintenance: coordinate with vendors and management to ensure imaging equipment is maintained, calibrated, and functioning safely and effectively
• Health, Safety and Compliance: uphold safety standards and regulatory compliance in the imaging environment, particularly in handling decomposed or infectious remains
• Education and Knowledge Sharing: contribute to internal training and external educational initiatives related to forensic radiography, imaging safety, and best practices

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirement

• You have a CAMRT (Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists) certification with MRT (R) designation

Complementary skills (not mandatory)
• You have a College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) licence in good standing
• You have an Ontario Association of Medical Radiation Sciences (OAMRS) licence in good standing
• You have a CAMRT (Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists) certification with MRT (MR) designation

Technical knowledge and expertise

You can:
• apply knowledge of x-ray and CT or MRI procedures, techniques, including quality control and troubleshooting skills to provide forensic imaging services in support of death investigations
• assess image quality and adjust protocols to meet diagnostic standards in complex postmortem cases
• oversee and coordinate preventative maintenance of imaging equipment, ensuring optimal performance and timely issue resolution
• develop, implement and refine imaging protocols and standard operating procedures to meet evolving forensic needs

Analytical and evaluation skills

You can:
• evaluate case history and investigative context to select appropriate imaging protocols
• troubleshoot imaging artifacts
• identify, mitigate and report safety concerns in compliance with legislative and regulatory compliance

Consultative and communication skills

You can:
• document imaging tasks using organizational software and maintain accurate records and statistics
• communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders, including drafting and presenting technical content
• deliver educational and safety presentations related to field of expertise
• develop and lead internal education sessions and deliver presentations on imaging related topics

Research skills

• You can participate in and contribute to research projects undertaken by Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS) pathologists and researchers

Problem solving and time management skills

You have the ability to:
• adjust workflow in line with fluctuating case volume
• prioritize tasks, manage time, support personnel and equipment related resources

This position will require you to have the ability to safely position and transfer bodies in a dignified manner (working in pairs) between imaging tables and the body storage gurneys
