The Corporate Services Branch is looking for an energetic professional with FOI experience to process access to information requests by working. As the successful candidate you will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders using highly developed analytical and interpersonal skills to provide great customer service and potentially predict, prioritize and solve complex or contentious access issues.

About the job

You will:
• Administer the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIIPPA)
• Provide analysis and recommendations in conducting substantive reviews of records in response to freedom of information (FOI) access requests
• Assist the development of policy and procedure proposals related to the FIPPA
• Provide advice and training to Ministry staff on access and privacy issues to ensure compliance with FIPPA requirements

What you bring to the team


Freedom of Information Expertise:

• You have demonstrated knowledge and the ability to interpret and apply freedom of information legislation (e.g. FIPPA, MFIPPA) associated case law and precedents, and other access and privacy related legislation, directives, guidelines, and policies
• You have knowledge of current and emerging privacy and access theories, principles, trends, issues and solutions to provide advice and technical direction to resolutions
• You have knowledge of government records management processes and policies to ensure effective management and integrity of FOI records

Communication, Presentation, and Negotiation Skills:

• You have oral communication skills to discuss and provide information and advise to all levels of staff, deliver training and communicate with the public
• You have written communication skills to develop and present various materials such as, briefings, formal responses to requestors, reports and recommendation papers
• You have strong negotiation skills
• You have presentation and consultation skills to represent the ministry on committee and working groups and deliver training initiatives to managers and staff on FOI policy awareness
• You can participate in the mediation process to resolve issues and conflicts

Organizational and Analytical Skills:

• You can evaluate complex and sensitive information and anticipate risks and impacts on requests
• You can prioritize workload and ensure compliance within legislated timelines and manage a number of issues concurrently
• You have experience in records retention and data security within Information Management policies

Project Management and Research Skills:

• You have project management skills to effectively perform daily project activities and monitor project progress and timelines on multiple projects concurrently
• You have research skills to identify and apply relevant legislation and evaluate issues related to policy development and program implementation

Computer Skills:

• You have working knowledge of computer operations and software programs to track and process requests, prepare reports and presentations and conduct research
