The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) is an independent oversight body committed to protecting and promoting Ontarians' access to information and safeguarding personal privacy. As an administrative tribunal, the IPC oversees compliance with four key statutes: the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), and the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA).

We are currently seeking a Junior Accountant & Administration Coordinator to join our Corporate Services team. This role plays an important part in ensuring the financial and operational efficiency of the IPC. The Junior Accountant & Administration Coordinator plays a dual role in supporting finance and administrative operations. You'll coordinate invoice payments, perform reconciliations, assist with purchasing, and serve as backup for various administrative duties that help keep IPC running smoothly and efficiently.

About the job

As a Junior Accountant and Administration Coordinator, your responsibilities include:

Accounting Operations
• Coordinate invoice payments, expense claims, wire transfers, ensuring proper budget coding.
• Verify approvals align with IPC signing authority; ensure goods/services received before processing.
• Reconcile vendor accounts and liaise with the Legislative Assembly Accounts Payable team.
• Maintain digital records of invoices and receipts as per retention policies.
• Track office furniture inventory and manage asset documentation.
• Reconcile daily eAppeal revenue and liaise with Ministry of Finance for accurate revenue reporting.
• Process eAppeal refunds in collaboration with Intake and Finance staff.
• Monitor and reconcile corporate credit card transactions; prepare monthly journal entries.
• Purchase office supplies and liaise with vendors to ensure timely delivery.
• Maintain audit-ready documentation for financial activities.

Administrative Support (as backup)
• Assist with employee onboarding/offboarding and office orientation.
• Handle incoming/outgoing mail, document shredding, and supplies maintenance.
• Support logistics for internal events and meetings.
• Provide general administrative and clerical support.
• Collaborate with teams to enhance operational efficiency.

What you bring to the team


You will qualify for this position by demonstrating:

Education and Experience:

• Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in accounting and administrative support (preferred).

Knowledge Requirements:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel; experience in reconciliations and journal entries.

Skills and Abilities:

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Excellent attention to detail and proactive problem-solving approach.
• Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across departments.
