About the job
In this role you will:
• Design new structures and rehabilitations, including preparing contract documents, schedules and estimates.
• Conduct structural assessments and related analysis of existing structures to ensure safety and adequacy of structures.
• Monitor the effectiveness and performance of trial projects and provide input into improvements of structural practices/methods.
• Support asset management through data analysis, research, rehabilitation planning, and system development.
• Provide interpretation of structural codes/standards and guidance to colleagues and external partners.
• Perform audit inspections of bridges.
• Provide project management services related to structural-related projects.
• Participate in policy development and technical committees.
• Review and update policies, procedures, specifications, codes, manuals and systems.
NOTE: You will be required to travel to remote areas not accessible by public transit.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
• You possess a valid 'G' driver's license or equivalent as recognized by the province of Ontario.
Technical Knowledge
You:
• have knowledge of structural engineering principles, including bridge design, rehabilitation, inspection, and evaluation.
• have familiarity with related disciplines such as highway design, soils and foundations, hydrology, and construction practices.
• have knowledge of codes, standards, specifications policies, manuals and practices related to bridge design, standards, rehabilitation, inspection, evaluation and construction.
• have knowledge and experience with structural analysis and design systems and software related to bridges.
• have experience with project management, risk assessment, and change management methodologies.
• have an understanding of procurement processes.
• have strong communication skills for collaboration, reporting, and committee participation.
Communication and Consultation Skills
You can:
• provide advice, deliver presentations, work effectively with ministry staff and outside agencies.
• participate in various internal and external committees.
• prepare written manuals, specifications, standard drawings, reports, briefing materials and other documentation.
• consult and negotiate to assist in the development of policies, standards and specifications
Research and Analytical Skills
You can:
• carry out the design, rehabilitation, construction, evaluation and inspection of structures.
• develop new policies, standards, procedures, manuals, tools and models.
Project Management Skills
You have:
• project management, planning and organizational skills to assist in the delivery of structural-related projects
• the ability to carry out various projects or assignments simultaneously
