*Please note that these are irregularly scheduled, on-call positions working from 0 to 40 hours per week.

About the job

As the Food Services Assistant at the Ontario Police College, you'll be part of a dedicated team responsible for feeding and supporting the daily routines of staff and students. While interacting with students, recruits, and staff you'll be working in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment where no two days are the same.

In this role, you will:
• Perform cleaning services for all dining rooms, serving areas, furniture and associated equipment
• Prepare dining room for serving meals (three times daily)
• Wash and prepare vegetables, cutting food items into individual portions
• Assist in the preparation and serving of food, and clean-up after special functions
• Operate the dishwasher to clean all dishes and cutlery as well as replacing clean dishes on shelves and cutlery in receptacles

What you bring to the team


Food Preparation Knowledge and Skills

You have knowledge or experience in:
• preparing and serving food within a large scale food services operation
• using various kitchen equipment to prepare food as well as cleaning equipment/products to maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen, dining rooms, and serving areas
• food safety practices and health and safety standards (such as WHMIS)

Communication Skills

You are able to:
• effectively and courteously serve staff and students at meal time
• assist other staff in preparing and serving food
• participate in clean-up after special functions
• interact with students, recruits, and staff to address and rectify complaints or issues related food services

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

You can:
• follow directions and ensure adherence to established standards
• follow guidelines on determining the appropriate serving/portion of food
• maintain an adequate supply of food on the steam counter during meals
