Consider joining a dynamic, collaborative team as a Senior Policy Advisor that will inform and deliver modernized, customer-focused energy efficiency and energy planning programs in the context of electrification and the energy transition!

This temporary role is a unique opportunity to manage and monitor program operations, support policy development, and build and maintain relationships with energy sector agencies, municipalities and other stakeholders.

The Energy Efficiency Policy and Programs Branch within the Distribution, Conservation and Innovation Policy at the Ministry of Energy and Mines is responsible for a range of ministry and third party -delivered energy efficiency and planning programs and initiatives, including energy and water reporting and benchmarking, and the Municipal Energy Plan grant program.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• Implement program delivery principles and practices to encourage consistent stakeholder support, adherence to program policies and procedures and success in meeting program goals
• Conduct research and perform quantitative analysis to inform energy conservation policies and initiatives in Ontario.
• Monitor and assess program results and recommend policy and program changes in support of effective provincial energy programs and policies.
• Research, analyse and develop evidence-based strategic policy advice and recommendations with respect to energy conservation.
• Prepare briefing notes and presentations, and develop policy options and recommendations, to inform and support decision-making by ministry senior management, ministers, ministers' staff and other executives.
• Participate on working committees, task forces, project teams and panels as needed.

•Experienced in program and policy development, delivery, and project management.
•Skilled in analyzing data to support informed policy and program decisions.
•Understands key economic, environmental, legal, and political factors shaping energy policy.

Analytical, Research and Problem-Solving Skills

You can:
•Assess policy and program options based on cost, feasibility, and stakeholder impact.
•Gather and evaluate data from diverse public and private sources.
•Monitor and report on legislative, economic, and environmental trends across jurisdictions.
•Conduct research and apply data analysis to develop benchmarks and performance metrics.

Project Management and Leadership

You can:
•Lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects under tight timelines.
•Build and sustain strong relationships across ministries and with external stakeholders.
•Navigate sensitive issues through skilled negotiation and consultation.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills

You can:
•Build strong relationships with internal and external partners to advance program goals.
•Communicate complex policy and technical issues clearly to non-technical audiences.
•Lead briefings and working groups, using influence and collaboration to shape consultation frameworks.
•Prepare detailed materials using word processing, database, and presentation software.
