About the job
• Lead province-wide engineering work to shape policies, legislation and regulations, and programs that protect Ontario's water systems.
• Provide expert advice to senior leaders and stakeholders on wastewater, stormwater, and nutrient management.
• Assess and apply emerging technologies to improve environmental outcomes and support innovation in water treatment.
• Guide complex projects that integrate engineering with program delivery and environmental policy and regulatory development.
• Collaborate across sectors to ensure engineering solutions meet public, environmental, and economic needs.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
Specialized Engineering Expertise
• Demonstrated knowledge of civil, chemical, environmental engineering and related fields (e.g., biochemical, nutrient management).
• Ability to assess and integrate engineering principles into policy, legislation, regulations, and technical guidelines related to wastewater and nutrient management.
Policy and Regulatory Integration
• Proven experience interpreting and applying provincial legislation (e.g., Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Great Lakes Protection Act).
• Ability to lead development and implementation of engineering-informed policies, standards, and regulatory frameworks.
Strategic Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
• Interpersonal and communication skills to influence senior officials, stakeholders, and cross-ministry partners.
• Ability to present complex engineering concepts clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences, including public, municipal, and industrial sectors.
Project and Change Management
• Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects and change initiatives with strategic outcomes.
• Ability to plan, lead, and deliver engineering programs aligned with ministry goals and government priorities.
Research and Innovation Assessment
• Capacity to evaluate emerging technologies and international innovations for relevance and feasibility in Ontario's context.
• Ability to conduct engineering assessments and economic impact analyses for new or updated programs and standards.
