About the job

In this challenging position, you will:

• prepare recommendations regarding the planning, design, construction and maintenance of highway facilities
• supervise engineering service provider assignments
• carry out on-site investigations and prepare reports
• analyse and evaluate field and laboratory test data
• provide technical information and advice to staff, service providers, stakeholders and special interest groups
• evaluate pavement conditions and develop maintenance/rehabilitation strategies

Please note: fieldwork and occasional overnight travel is a requirement of this position.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid G license or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's license upon being hired.

Technical knowledge:

You have:
• Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of pavement investigation, testing and design, to analyze problems and identify solutions
• Knowledge of highway construction and maintenance to provide cost effective solutions related to construction issues
• Knowledge of geotechnical engineering materials (soils, asphalt) to identify pavement and material problems and provide recommendations to ministry staff and consultants
• Working knowledge of computers and relevant software applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access), to facilitate communication, problem analysis, and data inventory

Essential skills:

You have:
• Ability to analyze a problem by identifying critical factors, research, define causes, define possible solutions, and select best solution
• Listening, speaking, writing, working cooperatively in a team environment, to promote the effective delivery of multi-disciplinary projects
• Ability to work effectively both individually and in teams to negotiate resolve, advise, report and present technical and administrative information
• Ability to assist in the administration and supervision of consultants by preparing and administering contracts, assessing deliverables and rating performance, to effectively deliver projects without delay
