The Legal Services Branch of the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement and Ministry of Infrastructure (MPBSDP/MOI LSB) of the Civil Law Division, Ministry of the Attorney General, is looking for up to three experienced government counsel to join its dynamic and diverse legal team. MPBSDP/MOI LSB is a large and varied branch that provides advice on key government projects, operations, and programs, legislative development, and regulatory enforcement. MPBSDP/MOI LSB is a collegial, respectful, and team-based environment, and has an active and dynamic office and social culture.
About the job
The successful candidate(s) will work as part of a close-knit team to:
•Provide strategic and technically sound legal advice on signature government initiatives, special projects, and ministry operations.
•Work on the development of legislation and regulations, as well as on ministerial directions, government directives, appointments, and Orders in Council.
•Negotiate, draft, review and advise on a variety of legal and other instruments, including transfer payment and grant agreements, commercial agreements, Memoranda of Understanding.
•Effectively brief ministry clients and decision-makers.
•Collaborate and engage with other legal services branches across CVLD.

Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario
Knowledge and Skills
• A diverse and well-honed portfolio of government legal practice, coupled with excellent analytical ability, inter-personal skills, and political acuity.
• Legal advisory experience, including ability to recognize and assess legal implications in ministry practices, programs, and policy proposals, and to handle sometimes complex and potentially novel legal issues.
• Demonstrated experience with the development of legislation and regulations
• Demonstrated experience drafting government and other legal instruments
• Technical knowledge of: administrative law, regulatory law, real property law, freedom of information and privacy law, Aboriginal law, including Duty to Consult.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, and demonstrated ability to brief senior leadership
• Adaptability, flexibility, and ability to manage a diversity of legal issues.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and a commitment to contribute to a collegial and equitable environment.
