About the job
Applying your technical expertise, negotiation skills and your knowledge of contract practices, you will:
• monitor contractors' delivery of construction and maintenance operations while ensuring necessary work records are maintained
• ensure compliance with contract requirements, review of extra work, contract drawings and documents and claims
• liaise with contractors, property owners, internal staff, and the general public to address issues and complaints
• provide technical advice and training to staff
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• These positions require the successful candidates to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Technical expertise:
• proven experience and knowledge of constructions and/or maintenance practices including inspection, material sampling, testing, and road patrolling duties
• knowledge of highway, construction standards and specifications and maintenance
• ability to interpret contract drawings and documents
• ability to interpret and apply knowledge of related policies, acts, regulations and procedures for safety, and environmental protection
Essential Skills
• Well-developed oral and interpersonal skills to deal with contractors, colleagues and the general public.
• Good mathematical skills to conduct payment calculations and assessments, and conduct field surveys.
• Proven analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills to assist with the assessment of construction-related issues
• Good written skills to maintain accurate records such as inspector diaries.
• Well-developed organizational and planning skills to carry out contract related activities.
• Good working knowledge of computers to perform clerical and administrative work such as correspondence, instruction notices, payment calculations, payment reports, contract payment assessment, and applicable reports and forms.
