The Office of the Auditor General (OAGO) is an independent office of the Legislative Assembly that conducts performance and financial statement audits of the provincial government, its ministries and agencies. We also audit organizations in the broader public sector that receive provincial funding. The OAGO is seeking an experienced, dynamic Director, Strategic Communications to lead our internal and external communication efforts. You'll be the chief architect and executor of all communication strategies designed to enhance the OAGO's brand reputation, drive stakeholder engagement, and support our core business objectives. You'll oversee the full spectrum of communications, including public relations, media relations, corporate communications, and digital/social media.

About the job

As a Director, Strategic Communications, you will:

Strategic Leadership & Planning
• Develop and implement comprehensive, annual communication strategies and plans that align directly with OAGO goals.
• Provide expert strategic communications advice and counsel to the organization's senior leadership.
• Participate and assist with tabling of reports, working closely with the Director, Editorial Services and Production to ensure a smooth process.

Media & Public Relations
• Serve as a media contact, managing inquiries, relationships, and developing materials like press releases and backgrounders.
• Assist is media preparation and planning before the tabling of reports.
• Manage issues and crisis communications to protect and preserve the organization's public image.
• Develop and execute public relations campaigns, organize public events, and facilitate processes around public inquiries.

Team Management & Internal Communications
• Supervise, mentor, and manage the communications team, providing guidance and constructive feedback.
• Develop and implement internal communication strategies to ensure staff are informed, engaged, and aligned with organizational objectives.
• Manage budgets and resources effectively.

Digital Communications & Issues Management
• Oversee and enhance the organization's website and social media presence, developing effective digital strategies.
• Track and analyze emerging issues, providing expert advice and executing strategies to address potential communication risks (inaccuracies, biases, legal/ethical concerns).
• Monitor media and social media coverage related to the OAGO.

What you bring to the team


You will qualify for this position by demonstrating:

• Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of public sector operations, government protocols, and communication principles.
• Knowledge of communication theories, best practices, and marketing/branding principles.
• Proven ability to develop and implement high-level communication strategies.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to maintain strong brand messaging and consistency.
• Demonstrated capability to guide and motivate teams while building strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience utilizing analytic tools to measure and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies.
• Ability to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously and under pressure.

Asset Qualifications

• Having the ability to communicate (orally and in writing) in French is an asset.
