About the job

ENFORCEMENT-FOCUSED ROLES
• Enforce Provincial laws and regulations by issuing warnings, tickets, investigating complaints, and supporting visitor safety.
• Maintain facilities by performing routine upkeep such as cleaning, minor repairs, grounds work, and operating light equipment.
• Provide visitor services by offering information, orientation, public contact, and promoting compliance with park rules.

Park Warden ($25.78-$28.72/hour) (23 weeks, May 4 to October 12)
Also:
• Performs campground enforcement and maintenance duties during night shifts, working as late as 2 am as a core function.
• Provides leadership to staff in the absence of daytime supervisors.
• Contributes to health and safety program by completing regular inspections of facilities and resolving identified issues.
• Handles cashiering, permits, reservations, and reconciling daily sales.

MAINTENANCE-FOCUSED ROLES:
• Performs routine sanitation of facilities and grounds maintenance (e.g., washroom cleaning, grass mowing, garbage collection) as a core function.
• Performs general campground operations and maintenance, including upkeep of grounds, trails, campsites, and facilities.
• Operates and maintains light equipment and tools such as power tools, chainsaws, mowers, and hand tools.
• Interacts with park visitors, providing information, promoting compliance with park rules, and reporting problems or safety concerns.

Operations Technician / Park Warden ($25.78-$28.72/hour) (29 weeks, April 6 to October 30)
Also:
• Provides day-to-day leadership to maintenance staff and assigns work.
• Is involved in park operations management, inventory/purchasing of supplies and materials, and addressing visitor complaints.
• Enforce Provincial laws and regulations by issuing warnings, tickets, investigating complaints, and supporting visitor safety

Park Maintenance Worker ($22.86-$24.66/hour) (23 weeks, May 4 to October 12)
Also:
• Performs building related maintenance, including minor repairs, painting, and utility upkeep.
• Conducts facility and equipment inspections to ensure cleanliness and safe operation.
• Provides leadership to student staff.

BACKCOUNTRY-FOCUSED ROLES:
• Performs regular overnight backcountry canoe trips extending from 5-8 days in length.
• Conducts duties in remote backcountry parks including Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater, Obabika River, Sturgeon River, Makobe-Grays River, and Solace Provincial Parks.
• Operates and maintain light equipment and tools such as boats, ATVs, chainsaws, and hand tools.
• Conducts GPS-based inventory work and maintains detailed records on trails and canoe routes.
• Interacts with park visitors, providing information, promoting compliance with park rules, and reporting problems or safety concerns.

Backcountry Park Warden (($25.78-$28.72/hour) (22 weeks, May 4 to October 3)
Also:
• Enforces Park laws and regulations by issuing warnings, tickets, investigating complaints, and supporting visitor safety.
• Performs ecological monitoring, including invasive species and species at risk reporting.
• Conducts inspections of private and commercial land use permits for compliance.

Canoe Route Technician ($23.93-$25.94/hour) (22 weeks, May 4 to October 3)
Also:
• Develops, and maintains hiking trails, canoe routes, portages, campsites, and related structures.
• Assists with enforcement encounters, acting as a witness and helping collect and transport evidence.
• Assists with inspections of private and commercial land use permits for compliance.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements:

• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's license upon being hired.
• You have the ability to work shifts, weekends and statutory holidays as required.

Enforcement-focused roles:

• Ability to be designated as a Park Warden and meet ministry certification criteria and standards in the use of force.
• Knowledge of park laws and regulations — understanding and enforcing provincial statutes and park policies
• Strong communication and customer-service skills — providing information, resolving concerns, and engaging positively with visitors.
• Ability to safely operate equipment and perform routine maintenance — using tools (e.g., mowers, chainsaws, boats) and keeping facilities clean and functional.
• Leadership and teamwork abilities — guiding student staff, supporting colleagues, and maintaining safe work practices.
• Problem-solving and decision-making skills — responding to issues, complaints, and emergencies effectively and appropriately.

Maintenance-focused roles:

• Knowledge of park operations, safety regulations, and environmental/resource management practices to support maintenance, compliance, and responsible land use.
• Skill in operating and maintaining light equipment and tools (e.g., chainsaws, mowers, hand tools) safely and effectively in various conditions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities to engage with park visitors and work collaboratively with team members.
• Organizational and problem-solving skills to manage workload independently, respond to issues in remote environments, and maintain accurate records.

Backcountry-focused roles:

• Knowledge of backcountry travel, canoe tripping/camping, navigation and the practices/techniques of outdoor living.
• Physical ability to perform duties safely in rugged terrain and remote backcountry settings.
• Skill in operating and maintaining light equipment and tools (e.g., boats, chainsaws, hand tools) safely and effectively in various conditions.
• Strong interpersonal skills to be able to work in a team while away on overnight camping trips for prolonged periods of time.
• Analytical skills to apply resource and emergency management principles to ensure environmental protection and human/personal safety.
