The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Bureau Commander of Fleet, Supply and Weapon Services Bureau (FSWSB), is seeking a qualified individual to join our Garage Operations unit. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will assist in the recovery and restoration of used police equipment and accessories removed from trade-in vehicles, prepare new vehicles and to perform general garage duties by performing various semi-skilled mechanical tasks.
** Please note that this opportunity is for a fixed-term contract of six (6) months.**

About the job

What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
• Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License
Knowledge of Automotive Theories/Equipment Maintenance
• Demonstrates knowledge of basic automotive principles and maintenance practices to perform routine equipment repairs, refurbishing, and assist skilled tradespersons. Familiarity with decal application and ability to coordinate receipt of used police equipment and accessories from trade-in vehicles.
• Understanding of technical manuals, OPP maintenance policies, and safe work practices under the Occupational Health & Safety Act. Proficiency in using a variety of hand tools to complete maintenance tasks in compliance with established schedules and procedures.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills
• Job requires oral communication skills to alert and provide information to skilled tradespersons of maintenance problems and to gather / discuss information from other maintenance staff regarding technical problems
Judgement/Discretion
• Ability to diagnose and test electrical equipment to determine repair or refurbishing needs, perform wiring system repairs, and refurbish police electrical components. Skilled in applying correct repair methods, selecting appropriate tools, and alerting supervisors for complex issues.
• Attention to detail when applying decals and modifying vehicle electrical systems, ensuring proper methods and safety precautions are followed throughout all repair and maintenance activities.
Physical/Sensory Demands
• Physical ability to operate shop equipment and power tools (e.g., drills, soldering stations, air guns) for repair and refurbishing tasks. Requires frequent sitting, standing, bending, crouching, and reaching, as well as daily lifting of 10–20 lbs and occasional lifting of up to 100 lbs.
• Strong sensory focus, including attention to detail and visual concentration, with exposure to loud noise from garage equipment during daily operations.
