NOTE: we are currently seeking to fill one seasonal position in Dorset, however the results of this competition may be used to fill future seasonal opportunities in Etobicoke, Sudbury or Kenora

About the job

You will:
• Assist in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of environmental data from various field sites.
• Participate in field operations for the investigation of environmental conditions, including water, sediments, fish and other biota.
• Support investigations of environmental conditions to assess the impacts of contaminant discharges, climate change, invasive species, and the effectiveness of control measures.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's license or equivalent. Proof of a valid driver's license will be required prior to candidate being hired

Knowledge:

• theoretical knowledge of aquatic biology and aquatic chemistry,
• experience with technical/specialized environmental sampling methodologies, data collection procedures, proper handling of samples, and technical reporting standards,
• applied knowledge of water, sediment, fish and benthic macroinvertebrate collection equipment, limnological sampling equipment and methodological and hydrologic equipment

Analytical and Problem-solving skills:

• problem-solving skills to develop and test novel field methodologies and techniques, perform data quality checks/edits, conduct general troubleshooting of sampling equipment and propose solutions
• experience conducting analysis/research of water quality projects and design surveys, including sampling protocols and site selection.
• ability to select appropriate techniques for unique environmental considerations and interpret survey and research results.

Project management, Communication and Leadership skills:

• demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and lead environmental monitoring and research projects, coordinate activities with partners and lead a team of crew staff
• communication skills to present/discuss technical information and ideas, provide expertise, write technical reports and make presentations

Computer proficiency:

• proficiency with database management, statistical, word processing, and graphics software to: develop and maintain databases, ensure data quality, produce analyses and prepare reports on findings.
