Join Geospatial Ontario to help our team as we continue to develop, build and innovate province-wide mapping products across Ontario.

In this role, you will work with a diverse team of geospatial experts in a highly collaborative setting to develop Foundation Geospatial Data for the province of Ontario. This is an opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills in geospatial science and technology to help develop new, innovative mapping solutions. Projects often require teams to engage and work with a wide user community that includes the public, private sector, Indigenous communities, municipalities, Conservation Authorities and provincial and federal government.

About the job

As a Geospatial Analytical Technician, you will:

• provide technical expertise in the delivery of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing projects and operations
• assist in the development and implementation of the information management activities of the Mapping and Information Resources Branch
• analyze and process spatial data to develop required solutions and information products
• assess and evaluate project deliverables for quality and adherence to standards
• solve intermediate technical problems and participate in more advanced problem resolutions
• assist the project manager with project reporting, task scheduling and exploring and implementing new geospatial methods

What you bring to the team


GIS Knowledge and Skills

• You have knowledge of geospatial theory and practice (GIS, Remote Sensing, Mapping & GPS) with emphasis on geospatial referencing systems spatial data integration, geospatial analysis, statistical sampling techniques, error analysis, map production and accuracy assessment.
• You have a demonstrated ability to use GIS and Remote Sensing software and its associated modules.
• You have knowledge of quality control and quality assurance principles and practices to ensure high-quality deliverables.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

• You have demonstrated analytical skills to provide GIS analysis and data management.
• You have good research and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot technical and process problems.

Information Management

• You have proven knowledge of information management principles concerning the quality, use and value of data and information.
• You are aware of the principles related to effective information access, privacy and copyright protection and information security.

Project Management and Organizational Skills

• You have sound project management skills to ensure project tasks are completed on-time, within budget and to required specifications.
• You have good organizational and time management skills to work in an environment with multiple projects and changing priorities.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills

• You have proven teamwork skills to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary, collaborative working group.
• You possess good verbal communications skills to communicate technical issues and solutions using clear language.
• You possess good writing skills to develop work plans and prepare technical procedures and reports.
