The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming seeks a seasoned individual to lead, coordinate and plan all capital infrastructure projects and activities on behalf of Huronia Historical Parks (‘HHP'). HHP consists of three historic attractions (Sainte-Marie among the Hurons, Discovery Harbour, and Nancy Island)

• The mission of Huronia Historical Parks is to act as stewards of heritage, managing significant assets, and delivering on Ministry business objectives. HHP consists of visitor focused organizations with education-based programming, special events, restaurants, and managing rental spaces among many other heritage assets.

• The individual is expected to be on-site five days a week. Huronia Historical Parks sites are open seven days per week during peak season and sporadically throughout the off season. The role also requires weekend, evening, and night work based on operational needs.
The Nancy Island Historic Site located in Wasaga Beach is a nationally significant location commemorating the War of 1812 and the heroic battle of HMS Nancy. This site offers immersive historical experiences, including costumed interpreters, hands-on demonstrations, and a replica 19th-century lighthouse with stunning views of Wasaga Beach.
Sainte-Marie among the Hurons in Midland (1639-1649) is a reconstruction of the 17th century headquarters of the French Jesuit mission to the Huron people. It was the first European community in Ontario and home to six of the eight North American Jesuit martyrs.

Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene represents the period from 1817 to 1856 when the Royal Navy and the British Army maintained a naval dockyard and military garrison at this strategic defense station on Georgian Bay. Discovery Harbour is the home of replica vessels and the King's Wharf Theatre offers professional summer theatre.

Note: This position is located at 16164 Hwy 12, Midland, however you may be required to work out of the 93 Jury Drive, Penetanguishene or 119 Mosley Street, Wasaga Beach location periodically.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• manage capital infrastructure projects within the HHP to ensure they meet timelines, budgets, and scope, and lead diverse project teams
• build and maintain relationships with project managers, offering guidance on communication, coaching, and training to develop the team
• provide expert advice on environmental management and operational initiatives
• evaluate requests against Branch priorities, develop business cases, and address resource allocations, competing interests, impacts on workload, and project sequencing

What you bring to the team


Knowledge of infrastructure planning and procurement

You have:
• the ability to schedule work to ensure major elements to the projects reach timely and successful conclusions in a complex, dynamic environment
• technical knowledge of construction and managing infrastructure projects
• familiarity with municipal, provincial, or federal capital project requirements, including tendering, contract management, and compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and funding agreements
• knowledge of infrastructure planning and procurement processes, including the ability to review construction options and evaluate infrastructure solutions
• experience with preventative maintenance planning and integrating maintenance and operational needs into capital project design
• working knowledge of building systems including mechanical, electrical, life-safety, and building envelope components to support informed project coordination and decision-making

Team leadership and project management skills

You have:
• experience coordinating capital infrastructure projects, including organizing scope, schedule, and cost
• the ability to work collaboratively with consultants, contractors, Infrastructure Ontario, regulatory bodies, and internal partners
• knowledge of infrastructure planning and procurement, including reviewing construction options and evaluating solutions
• experience supporting projects that involve regulatory processes such as environmental assessments, zoning and land-use approvals, archaeological assessments, and duty-to-consult activities
• skills in technical due diligence, risk assessment, and asset management to support informed, long-term planning

Financial management skills

You have:
• the ability to create and manage capital infrastructure, track spending, and analyze budget differences
• the capability to spot and report budget differences, and suggest changes to budgets

Analytical and problem solving skills

You can:
• evaluate if policy options are good for the environment and the economy, and recommend the best strategies
• use knowledge of performance indicators, measurements, and risk assessment to check efficiency and effectiveness

Interpersonal and communication skills

You can:
• communicate, advise, and build relationships to work well with others, give advice, and share information
• present, persuade, build agreement, and negotiate to explain things clearly and solve problems
• write and organize notes, reports, and other documents

Information technology skills

You have:
• experience with project management systems
• skills in using computer software like spreadsheets, word processing, presentations, and databases
