The Ministry of Transportation's Transportation Infrastructure Management Division is seeking a dynamic leader to guide a team of transportation professionals in advancing policy, planning, and infrastructure initiatives that support the safe and efficient movement of people and goods across the province. In this role, you will provide expert technical and policy advice, lead the development of government policy and legislation, and collaborate with key partners to deliver transportation solutions that align with provincial priorities.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• Lead and coordinate the analysis, planning, development, and communication of provincial transportation, land use and environmental policies, legislation and regulations that influence and address major issues in Ontario's transportation network
• Conduct creative analysis and develops innovative strategies and proposals to promote the ministry's transportation policy objectives
• Motivate, mentor, and provide leadership to a team of professionals, including determining work priorities, and coordinating work activities
• Provide technical advice and policy expertise to senior management, the Deputy, and the Minister
• Develop and foster effective relationships/partnerships, while considering diverse interests

What you bring to the team


Leadership and Project Management Skills:

You have the ability to:
• lead teams, plan, organize, and carry-out concurrent major, multiple transportation planning projects and policy initiatives involving multi-disciplinary teams and interjurisdictional representatives
• effectively complete project deliverables from initial concept through completion
• champion project management approaches, coach staff and provide expert advice to management and clients on performance improvement

Transportation Policy and Planning Knowledge:

You have the ability to demonstrate:
• knowledge of the linkages between economics, land use, transportation planning and policy issues
• experience with assessment practices related to transportation planning, traffic congestion, and environmental assessment to recommend innovative plans and processes
• knowledge of core issues related to transportation planning, considering social, economic, environmental, and financial impacts

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

You have the ability to:
• develop and foster effective relationships and manage consultations
• provide leadership and influence agreement among stakeholders with diverse interests
• represent the ministry and convey complex and technical issues in clear language
• prepare reports, Cabinet submissions, briefing notes and draft legislation

Research Evaluation and Analytical Skills:

You have the ability to:
• demonstrate sound judgment, sensitivity and a high degree of political acuity
• use research skills to plan and coordinate research projects that incorporates policy, economic, demographic, and technical data
• undertake risk assessments, make recommendations and provide advice, including cost-benefit analysis
• assess the impact of change and effectiveness of policies/programs against Ministry initiatives and goals

Issues Management:

You have the ability to:
• seek out and effectively analyze information to understand key business issues and identify potential solutions that may impact the organization
• facilitate resolution of contentious issues working collaboratively with stakeholders
