The Trilcor team is looking for a reliable Driver to provide driving services to pick-up and deliver institutional laundry for processing.
This position offers a compressed workweek schedule, and the opportunity for overtime.
Please note: This position supervises inmate helpers - Salary note for Custodial Responsibility Allowance (K-1) applies.
About the job
You will:
• Drive institutional vehicles for pick-up and delivery of laundry in a safe and secure manner
• Ensure vehicle inspections and routine maintenance are regularly performed for safe and proper operation
• Maintain vehicle records
• Complete required paperwork for each laundry pick-up and delivery
• Direct and supervise inmates
• Other duties, as assigned
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You possess Valid Ontario Class DZ Driver's License
• You have a current Emergency First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Heartsaver Certificate (or the ability to obtain it upon hire)
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
• You have knowledge of vehicle operating requirements and driving techniques and working knowledge of Ontario traffic laws and standard vehicle safety check procedures
• You have the ability to supervise and instruct inmates
• You have knowledge of security practices and techniques to ensure the security of inmates and the security of the work area
• You have ability to apply knowledge of practical correctional theory and principles to maintain custody and control of inmates
• You have knowledge of related legislation, policies and procedures (i.e. Institution standing orders, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Correctional Services Act, Human Rights Code) to supervise offenders in a secured industrial operation and complete documentation
Communication, Interpersonal, Organizational and Problem-Solving Skills
• You have good communication skills to convey facts and information regarding pick-ups and deliveries
• You are able to complete reports/logs and identify repair needs
• You are able to maintain the care, custody and control of offenders
• You can make decisions in response to medical or behaviour emergencies
