About the job
In this role, you will:
• provide technical leadership and guidance in developing standards, procedures, and tools to support highway design and contract documentation.
• analyze complex engineering and design issues, ensuring compliance with specifications and consistency in application of standards.
• analyze design and construction documents and provides engineering expertise to ensure consistency in the development of specifications, drawings, and the ministry's special provisions.
• identify and drive opportunities for innovation and process improvement to advance digital modernization in highway engineering design and construction.

What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You are licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or You currently have accreditation as a Professional Engineer in a Canadian Province or Territory, and you will obtain a Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) license as a condition of accepting this position.
• You possess a valid driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the province of Ontario.
Technical knowledge and skills:
• You have advanced knowledge of principles and practices of transportation engineering design, construction, maintenance and operations, contracting methods, construction contract preparation, presentation and documentation, product and materials management
• You have knowledge of the development and application of engineering standard specification, drawings, special provisions, and Contract Design, Estimating, and Documentation Manual (CDED)
• You are proficient in computer operation for word processing, worksheets, databases, graphics to produce reports, correspondence, briefing notes and presentations
Analytical and leadership/guiding skills:
• You have proven analytical skills to:
- interpret and apply directives, policies, specifications, drawing and special provisions to ensure consistency in contract preparation
- review, identify and analyze the deficiency of standards, specifications, drawings and special provisions.
• You have leadership/guiding skills to:
- lead the review and implementation of standards, specifications, drawings and special provisions
- identify and evaluate opportunities for innovation and to provide engineering expertise on process and product development
Communication and interpersonal skills:
• You have strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to provide expert advice on
engineering standards and specifications
• You have excellent interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, management, external stakeholders, and multi-disciplinary teams within the ministry and other jurisdictions.
