About the job
In this role, you will:
• review mining land tenure and applications programs for mining land grants such as leases, undertake Class Environmental Assessments and aboriginal consultations for the disposition of mining land, and provide direction to clients, surveyors and land managers
• conduct intensive research and analysis on complex or atypical land tenure issues in support of long range planning teams and projects and monitor project schedules to facilitate completion of project deliverables
• review ministries and agencies' land administration and land management activities and planning documents to identify impacts to the Ministry's mining lands mandate and objectives
• prepare a variety of documents such as technical reports, correspondence, briefing notes, etc.
• attend meetings and make formal presentations to staff, stakeholders and Indigenous peoples on mining lands programs and activities
What you bring to the team
Technical expertise:
• knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply land related legislation and regulations pertaining to lands and waters (e.g. Mining Act, Public Lands Act, Aggregate Resources Act, Environmental Assessment Act, etc.)
• ability to interpret and apply knowledge of ministry policies, procedures, guidelines, and manuals (e.g. Mining Lands Policies and Directives) to ensure land use and land management functions comply with provincial standards
• knowledge of mining lands and public lands and waters management practices and principles to organize and review land disposition projects and environmental assessments
Analytical and problem solving skills:
• well developed analytical and problem solving skills to review and analyze data (e.g. deeds, surveys, original patents and Crown reservations) to determine ownership and rights to resources
• evaluation, interpretation, assessment and problem solving skills to evaluate information from staff and stakeholders, confirming adherence to legislation/policy and taking correction action in non-compliance matters
• problem solving skills to facilitate resolution of land management conflicts and disposition of Crown land and mineral resources
Communication and interpersonal skills:
• good interpersonal and communication skills to make presentations and participate in public meetings and public consultation processes as a ministry representative
• verbal and written communication skills to respond to public inquiries, prepare briefing notes, draft Minister's letters, public information bulletins and website information, and write technical reports
Organizational and planning skills:
• excellent organizational and planning skills to provide technical input to land use and resource management planning processes and to plan and coordinate land dispositions projects and activities
General skills:
• knowledge of computer operations and software programs (e.g. word-processing, database, electronic mail, spreadsheet applications, etc.)
• knowledge of field data collection procedures, techniques and equipment (e.g. GPS, charts and plotters)
