About the job
In this role, you will:
• assist with the development, delivery, and evaluation of a range of public programs, including educational, interpretive, recreational, and special event programming
• conduct research to explore new delivery approaches, methods, tools, and interpretive techniques to support and improve program development and delivery
• summarize findings and suggest improvements to expand programming services for visitors, students, and community groups
• take part in events, demonstrations, and performances, portraying historical activities in period costume
• assist with program reviews and evaluations by gathering feedback through observation, surveys, and other tools to help identify improvements
• support day-to-day operations by preparing schedules and reports, assisting students, and helping maintain program equipment and materials
Note: You may be required to attend overnight functions, travel to out-of-town events, and work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• The position requires the successful candidates to have a valid class G driver's license or equivalent as recognized by the province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidates providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
• You must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid First Aid certificate
Communication, organization and interpersonal skills
You can:
• plan and organize your work, set priorities, and meet deadlines
• use word processing and spreadsheet applications to prepare program outlines, reports, summaries, and maintain records
• communicate clearly with colleagues, visitors, community groups, and students, including providing guidance when needed
• work independently and as part of a team
• write clear research summaries and program materials
Research, analytical and evaluation skills
You can:
• conduct research to support new and improved program methods
• analyze information to help design creative, engaging, and interactive programs (e.g., living history, education, events, and recreation).
• evaluate sources and materials to ensure programs are accurate and high quality.
• track feedback and progress, and solve problems that arise during program delivery
Program knowledge and educational services
You have:
• the ability to learn and apply organizational programs, events, projects, policies, and procedures to support programming services
• knowledge of the Ontario curriculum and how to work with learners of all ages, including those with special needs
• knowledge of health and safety practices, including first aid and on-water safety for education and recreation programs
Living history and interpretive skills
You have:
• the ability to use living history and drama techniques to deliver engaging programs that bring the past to life through workshops, performances, and historically accurate activities
• role-playing, interpretive programming and drama performance skills to take part in demonstrations, public performances, and historical dramatizations, including wearing period costumes and portraying historical activities during events
