The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Bureau Commander of Fleet Supply and Weapons Services Bureau is seeking a qualified individual to join our Weapons Services Section. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will maintain serviceability of OPP and designated agency firearms by conducting maintenance and repair to prevent and correct malfunctions, as well as provide quality assurance of OPP ammunition.

About the job
In this critical role, you will:
• Perform preventative maintenance and repair on firearms and weaponry, including disassembly, cleaning, inspection, parts replacement, adjustments, and test firing to ensure serviceability.
• Assess and evaluate ammunition for compliance and performance using industry-standard testing methods and equipment.
• Document all maintenance, repairs, and technical assessments; prepare detailed reports and provide expert advice on firearms and ammunition.
• Manage armoury inventory and records, including asset tracking, database updates, and work order creation.
• Liaise with manufacturers, suppliers, and other agencies to resolve technical issues, procure parts, and inspect incoming equipment and ammunition.
• Maintain a safe and secure workshop, design and fabricate specialized tools, and stay current with industry developments through ongoing training and professional engagement.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory Requirements
• Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation.
• Ability to pass annual Canadian Firearms Safety training.
• Ability to pass a psychological assessment
Technical Firearm Expertise:
• Advanced knowledge of firearms, weapon systems, and mechanical components
• Ability to diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs, modifications, and preventative maintenance
• Ensures firearms meet safety, reliability, and operational standards through testing and inspection
Ammunition & Ballistics Knowledge
• Strong understanding of ammunition types, specifications, and compliance standards (e.g., SAAMI)
• Ability to conduct ballistic testing and evaluate performance (pressure, velocity, penetration, etc.)
• Assesses suitability and safety of ammunition for operational use
Attention to Detail & Quality Assurance
• Conducts thorough inspections to identify defects, wear, or service requirements
• Maintains precision in measurements, testing procedures, and evaluations
• Determines repairability and recommends disposal or condemnation when necessary
Documentation & Inventory Management
• Accurately documents maintenance, repairs, and testing results
• Prepares technical reports and maintains detailed service records
• Uses database systems to track inventory, assets, and work orders
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
• Communicates technical information clearly and provides expert advice
• Builds and maintains relationships with manufacturers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
• Participates in ongoing training and stays current with industry developments and technologies
