About the job
In this role, you will:
• support the development and rollout of health and safety programs, including reviewing procedures, updating tools and helping coordinate initiatives across teams;
• analyze incident reports, audits and safety data to identify risks and recommend improvements to keep staff safe in field and operational environments;
• provide guidance to staff on health and safety requirements, helping them understand and meet legislative and workplace standards;
• assist with safety audits, inspections, and field activities, which may include supporting emergency response roles or working in outdoor environments;
• maintain safety records, documentation and systems (e.g., reports, SharePoint updates) to ensure information is accurate and accessible;
• contribute to planning activities such as safety plans, gap analysis and long-term program improvements.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Health and Safety Knowledge:
• demonstrated knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Internal Responsibility System (IRS) and Joint Health & Safety Committee roles
• strong understanding of Health and Safety Management Systems (e.g., hazard identification, incident reporting, risk assessment, audits, training, psychological safety)
• ability to interpret and apply legislation and policies to provide accurate guidance to staff and ensure compliance
Analytical, Risk Assessment and Problem-Solving Skills:
• ability to analyze incident reports, audit findings and safety data to identify trends, gaps and improvement opportunities
• experience applying risk management principles and hazard analysis to support program improvements and injury prevention
• capacity to develop practical, evidence-based recommendations to enhance safety practices and operational procedures
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
• strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports, presentations, and safety documentation
• ability to convey safety requirements, provide guidance, and conduct interviews (e.g., investigations) clearly and professionally
• demonstrated interpersonal skills to influence and guide staff in a tactful, diplomatic manner on compliance and best practices
Program Planning and Organizational Skills:
• ability to support the design, implementation, and coordination of health and safety programs and initiatives
• experience contributing to operational plans (e.g., audit plans, multi-year safety plans, gap analyses)
• strong organizational skills to manage documentation, program tracking, and competing priorities effectively
