About the job
You will:
• provide leadership for the provincial program, draft annual work plans, coordinate, monitor and report on related health and wellness projects and initiatives
• promote a health, safety and wellness philosophy and culture by developing and implementing standards, strategies and training programs
• provide subject matter expertise and advice on fitness, wellness, injury prevention and nutrition
• participate in the development and implementation of health and safety programs, as well as fulfill the employer's responsibilities under the Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
• collaborate with outside agencies such as the Centre for Research on Occupational Safety and Health (CROSH) on various fitness projects
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirement:
• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Technical expertise:
• You have knowledge of human kinesiology, physiology, biomechanics, or closely related field to support safe and effective physical fitness programming, training, injury prevention, rest and recovery cycles, and function capacities of occupational athletes, such as forest fire fighters or closely related profession.
• You have knowledge of training methodologies and learning preferences to support health, safety and wellness training programs, design training and learning opportunities for staff.
• You have knowledge of modern fitness and human physical and physiological performance, stress and endurance testing.
• You have demonstrated knowledge of current incident prevention and risk management principles, hazard identification and analysis to determine areas requiring improvements and to develop new initiatives to reduce injuries.
•You have knowledge of worker responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Leadership and interpersonal skills:
• You have leadership and facilitation skills to plan, consult, organize and implement program initiatives individually and in a team environment.
• You have interpersonal skills to liaise with field and management personnel, as well as external clients.
Communication skills:
• You have excellent oral and written communication skills to support frequent communication with project team, management, clients and stakeholders.
• You have knowledge of effective communication tools and methods to provide training and healthy lifestyle information to staff, targeting occupational athletes of all ages.
Project management skills:
• You have effective project management and time management skills to work independently and in a team environment on multiple projects with challenging timelines and limited resources.
Analytical and problem solving skills:
• You have sound analytical skills to assess program and situational needs.
• You have proven analytical and problem solving skills to review hazard and risk assessments and develop preventive measures.
Computer skills:
• You are proficient with computer software and hardware such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as specialized fitness and physical performance testing tools and applications.
• You are familiar with the internet to research scientific literature from web-based library sources.
