Note: this position requires working with and providing direction to inmates. Custodial Responsibility Allowance may apply (K-1 salary note).

About the job

In this role, you will:
• Receive, handle, store and distribute a wide variety of equipment and supplies
• Assemble, repackage goods and mix products for distribution and use
• Check incoming shipments against weigh bills for correct quantity and acceptable quality as well as check for damage or loss
• Contact suppliers regarding short shipments, delays and backorders
• Place items on shelves or bins and enter and update stock transactions on computer
• Fill stock requisitions and orders as well as distribute supplies and equipment to authorized personnel
• Take inventory and monitor stock and equipment levels
• Provide supervision to selected offender helpers by instructing them in work methods as well as prepare reports on offender conduct and performance

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You have the ability to obtain a valid Forklift Operator's Certificate, if required.

Specialized Knowledge and Experience:

• You have knowledge and experience with stock-keeping practices and processes in order to supervise the receipt, storage, recording, control, security and distribution of stock, parts, products and equipment
• You have knowledge of tracking and inventory control practices and systems to ensure the accurate and up-to-date records
• You understand and can comply with relevant legislation, regulation and policies (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS) to ensure proper handling, mixing, and storage of goods, and to maintain safety and security of stock areas
• You have computer skills to input data and produce reports

Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills:

• You can check incoming goods for correct quantity, quality, loss or damage by comparing with packing slips/purchase orders.
• You are able to review requests, check for proper signing authority, select required stock items and materials, and fill orders.
• You can identify diminishing stock and notify supervisor of need to re-order or backorder stock.
• You can determine the most suitable packaging and delivery methods.

Communication and Supervisory Skills

• You have supervisory and training skills to provide instruction to inmate helpers, direct and assign work, as well as inspect completed work
• You have interpersonal skills to discuss and resolve problems with suppliers and staff
• You have written communication skills to record stock transactions
• You are able to operate a computer and related software to update inventory records
