About the job
- Provide rehabilitative services and supports to offenders to promote successful community reintegration.
- Assess offender needs and make recommendations regarding program participation and placement.
- Conduct interviews and respond to offender requests.
- Prepare and maintain case notes, reports, and program records.
- Gather information and prepare documentation related to offender assessments and temporary absences.
- Support discharge planning by connecting offenders with community resources and services.
- Coordinate services with internal and external partners to support offender rehabilitation.
What you bring to the team
Legislative and Program Knowledge
You can:
- Apply legislation (i.e. Ministry of Correctional Services Act), policies, procedures, and correctional programs to make recommendations about offender placements.
- Use your knowledge of the justice system, court processes, and court documents in a correctional services setting.
- Use community resources to support offender rehabilitation and reintegration.
- Review offender information and make recommendations using established guidelines.
Interviewing and Assessment Skills
You can:
- Gather information through interviews with offenders and others involved in their case.
- Review and assess information to support placement recommendations.
- Apply offender classification processes and criteria when assessing offender needs and suitability for programs and placements.
- Make informed recommendations based on the information gathered.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
You can:
- Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Build productive working relationships with offenders, staff, community agencies, and external partners.
- Explain processes, gather information, and prepare reports and documentation.
- Use computerized offender information systems, databases, and software to enter, retrieve, maintain, and report information with accuracy.
Analytical, Investigative, and Evaluative Skills
You can:
- Review and assess information to support offender placement decisions.
- Analyze information from a variety of sources to make evidence-informed recommendations.
- Identify and address issues related to offender assessment and placement.
- Evaluate information using established criteria and guidelines.
- Analyze and assess competing demands to coordinate work activities and meet established timelines/deadlines.
