By building sophisticated algorithms and data methods, you will provide the insights needed to prevent workplace injuries and modernize our compliance planning.
We are seeking curious, service-oriented Senior Data Scientists to provide
leadership and expert advice on data management, statistical analysis and analytical tools. Working within the
Cloud ecosystem (Azure, Databricks and Power BI), you will deliver high-quality insights that support the ministry's strategic reporting and performance goals. You will work collaboratively with partners to strengthen data capacity in alignment with OPS principles, turning raw enforcement data into compelling stories and actionable policies. About the job
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will:
• Lead in data management, statistical modelling, and system enhancement.
• Serve as the data and digital solution expert on committees and governance bodies.
• Guide project teams, set standards, and provide training.
• Manage large, complex data and digital projects.
• Conduct analysis and develop predictive models and tools for planning.
• Investigate opportunities in improving occupational health and safety and employment standard systems, planning, and policy-making.
• Prepare briefings and responses to information requests.
• Offer expertise to clients and stakeholders.
What you bring to the team
Technical Knowledge and Data Skills:
You have:
• Knowledge in designing data models, pipelines, and backend data flows with optimized performance and reduced cost
• Experience advising on digital platforms and infrastructure and work with IT to develop and maintain digital solutions
• Knowledge of performance indicators to advise clients and analyze data.
• Understanding of data management, business analysis, database architecture, and data visualization.
• Programming skills in big data, statistical modelling, and visual analytics;
• Knowledge of relevant software and the ability to lead and advise on I&IT issues.
• Knowledge of data privacy standards and laws (e.g., FIPPA, PHIPPA).
Leadership and Project Delivery Skills:

• Lead and plan multiple projects, collaborate with team members, and manage deadlines.
• Demonstrate strong leadership and team-building skills to guide staff.
• Plan, prioritize, and coordinate activities effectively.

• Analyze large, complex datasets with various tools.

You can:
• Provide technical expertise and advice on project planning and reporting.
• Manage stakeholder relations and advise clients on solutions.
• Achieve consensus and influence discussions with stakeholders.
• Communicate effectively in writing and orally to present reports and explain data issues.
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues.
• Prepare reports, make presentations, and provide recommendations to senior management.
