About the job
As a Financial Officer, you will support the effective financial management of the branch's transportation, infrastructure, trade and investment programs. Your financial analysis and advice will help guide planning, manage risks and support informed decisions.
In this role, you will:
• manage program finances and the asset portfolio
• prepare budgets, forecasts and spending plans
• monitor expenditures, trends and budget variances
• provide financial analysis, advice and recommendations
• coordinate budget and year-end reporting processes
• oversee financial administration and liaise with the Ministry of Transportation's financial unit
What you bring to the team
Financial knowledge
You have:
• knowledge of budgeting, forecasting and expenditure management
• knowledge of government resource allocation, estimates and reporting processes
• knowledge of policies and directives related to payments, receivables, purchasing and transfer payments
• an understanding of business planning and program evaluation processes
Analytical and problem-solving skills
You can:
• analyze expenditures, trends and budget variances
• identify risks, funding pressures and cost-saving opportunities
• assess the budget implications of business plans, project proposals and funding changes
• recommend solutions to financial issues and improvements to processes
Communication and interpersonal skills
You have:
• communication skills to explain financial information, policies and processes clearly
• advisory skills to provide guidance and recommendations to management and staff
• writing skills to prepare reports, submissions, correspondence and briefing materials
• leadership skills to guide staff through financial processes and requirements
• interpersonal skills to work with internal and external partners to resolve issues
Organizational and technical skills
You have:
• experience coordinating budgeting, forecasting and year-end reporting activities
• organizational skills to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
• attention to detail to ensure financial information is accurate and complete
• experience using financial information systems to monitor budgets and expenditures
• proficiency with spreadsheet, database and reporting software to analyze data and prepare clear reports
