The Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) seeks an individual to coordinate the development delivery and continual improvement of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) System and its related programs, policies and procedures. The incumbent will provide expert advice and services to support the Agency's commitment to prevent workplace injuries/occupational illness.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this fast-paced role, you will:
• develop, plan and coordinate OCWA's framework for OHS accountability
• promote healthy and safe work environments by researching best practices in OHS within the Agency and private sector
• develop and deliver a range of OHS policies and programs to suit OCWA business needs
• coordinate delivery of OHS programs in support of the Agency's OHS system
• investigate, research, analyze and evaluate central agency directives, Ministry of Labour (MOL) orders and Workers Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) trends to determine and develop impact/risk assessments on Agency's programs/services and strategies/recommendations for discussion at local and senior levels of management
• implement operational processes and training initiatives
• evaluate existing operations, procedures, organization and workflow to identify opportunities for improving efficiency and effectiveness

How do I qualify?

Knowledge & Skills

• the ability to apply the theories, principles and policies related to proactive occupational health and safety management
• expert knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and its industrial regulation along with familiarity with the Workplace Safety & Insurance Act (WSIA)
• knowledge of health hazards, safety principles, equipment and health/safety
• superior consultation and analytical skills
• knowledge of communications planning and information technology
• planning and organizational skills
• the ability to design and deliver safety training programs
• written/verbal communication and problem-solving skills
• the ability to identify and resolve contentious issues
• knowledge of project management principles/practices and contract management skills
