A challenging opportunity exists in a central ambulance communications centre.

What can I expect to do in this role?

We are seeking dedicated individuals to:
• work rotating shifts in a 24/7 environment
• process 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency requests for ambulance service
• direct ambulance movements
• provide pre-arrival instructions
• communicate with individuals under stress
• operate complex computer-aided telecommunications equipment

Requires working on an as-needed basis with no guarantee of number of hours worked.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• you have keyboarding skills to 35 wpm with 90% accuracy
• you have valid standard first-aid and CPR certificate

Critical Skills:

• you have multi-tasking, organizational and memory recall skills with the ability to coordinate a variety of activities and resources, work under pressure and maintain control of situation
• you have decision making, problem solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to use judgment to assess problems and make decisions and to interpret and apply policies, procedures and/or information

General Skills:

• you have interpersonal and communication skills
• you are able to handle situations in a professional manner
• you have leadership skills to take initiative and give direction
• you are proficient with computer software
• You have abilities with spatial concepts (time/distance/resource equations and read/understand maps)

Only candidates who clearly identify they meet these qualifications will be considered.

Job offers will be conditional upon obtaining:
• Satisfactory criminal record check
• Valid standard first-aid and targeted responder CPR certificate
• Successful completion of computer-based training followed by Ambulance Communications Officer provincial certification
• Restricted Radio Operator certification, and
• Successful completion of on-the-job training.
