About the job
You will:
• enforce the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations in workplaces
• conduct inspections, investigations and quality assurance assessments
• provide professional advice to staff and management
• gather evidence and prepare engineering reports
• act as an expert witness in court and as an occupational health and safety expert/advisor in the field
• issue orders, and promote safe working practices and conditions with workplace parties via the Internal Responsibility System (IRS)
What you bring to the team
Mandatory:
• you must be a registered Professional Engineer licensed to practice in the Province of Ontario within three months of the posting date of this job advertisement
• fully recognized formal qualification in electrical engineering
• valid driver's license and ability to travel within service area
• ability to work after hours and on-call
Technical Expertise:
• expert knowledge and extensive experience in electrical engineering including discipline-related theories, principles and practices including those related to occupational health and safety
• ability to keep up to date on trends and developments in engineering and the health and safety field
• thorough knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations in the workplace with ability to interpret and enforce legislation
• ability to identify hazards and contraventions of legislation, and provide authoritative, reliable assessments/advice and recommendations
Communication Skills:
• well developed interpersonal skills with experience in consulting, advisory and relationship management skills
• ability to communicate complex technical and professional matters clearly and tactfully in stressful situations
Other Skills:
• ability to plan and manage an often unpredictable workload;
• ability to plan and undertake high level, complex engineering inspections and investigations
• proficiency in using computer and related software to produce engineering and other analyses, reports and a variety of materials
