About the job
In this role, you will:
• review and oversee contract drawings and documents during the pre-engineering phase
• prepare and evaluate requests for quotes and proposals for the consultant procurement process
• advise on the interpretation of special provisions, constructability, safety, environmental and quality issues
• oversee, review and assess contractors' and consultants' performance on several concurrent projects
• organize activities and provide technical supervision for on-site administration of construction projects; provide accurate payments, financial forecasts
• ensure documentation for claims settlement negotiations are provided
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• you must have a valid Class 'G' Drivers Licence to travel to various construction sites throughout the region
Highway Engineering Knowledge:
• you have knowledge of highway engineering principles, standards and specifications
• you can interpret and apply highway construction practices and related legislation such as the Construction Lien Act, Highway Traffic Act, Environmental Assessment Act
• you have experience with contract administration and project management to manage several concurrent highway projects and provide effective project supervision
Analytical and Problem Solving Skills:
• you have proven analytical and problem solving skills to assess highway engineering and highway construction issues that are politically sensitive or have financial impacts
• you can analyze and review drawings, plans and designs for compliance with ministry specifications
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
• you have well developed communication skills to prepare reports and deal effectively with senior management, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders
• you can provide technical supervision, guidance and support to staff
• you can negotiate with service providers on dispute resolution
Leadership skills:
• you can provide technical supervision, guidance and support to staff
Computer Skills:
• you have the ability to operate computers and associated software (such as Microsoft Office Suite)
