About the job
As a local subject matter expert, you will:
• perform advanced geo spatial processes
• provide group leadership through training and mentoring of co-workers
• provide operational support for the geographic information systems infrastructure and ensuring client demands are met through a rigorous project management framework
• help develop and evolve the unit's operational business processes
What you bring to the team
Knowledge and experience:
• knowledge of and proficiency with geographic information systems (GIS) concepts, theories and principles (quantitative analysis, statistical sampling techniques, error analysis, accuracy assessment, quality assurance, raster and vector models, data/database modelling and design, map creation)
• knowledge of and proficiency with global positioning system (GPS) data integration, application and methodology development
• knowledge of GIS hardware/software at the version level to support project-based planning, execution, training and troubleshooting
• knowledge of resource management principles and management techniques to engage clients in project negotiations and execution
Technical knowledge, skills and experience:
• demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more disciplines such as analysis, modelling, programming, data management that will allow you to lead and complete multiple complex functions
• technical skills to create advanced geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) information products for projects (interface customization and GIS/RS workflow automation)
Leadership and project management skills:
• project management experience and skills as they relate to principles, best practices and standards and to effectively execute various projects
• ability to work effectively within and lead multidisciplinary teams
• analytical skills to assess complex information, data and reports
• problem solving skills to assess, understand and solve client user requirements and to develop and deliver technical solutions
Communication and interpersonal skills
• interpersonal skills to foster and maintain relationships
• well honed oral communication skills to explain complex information to team and to liaise with stakeholders and assess needs
• demonstrated written communication skills to write detailed reports, correspondence and to prepare presentations for stakeholder meetings
Other important skills:
• proficiency using various computer programs, and databases
• ability to work independently and prioritize and organize work within tight deadlines
