The Ministry of Infrastructure, Infrastructure Policy and Planning Division is seeking a highly skilled Senior Economist that will provide expert advice related to municipal infrastructure policy in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• develop policy and financial advice for senior executives within the Ministry, Treasury Board, Management Board of Cabinet and Cabinet Committees
• have central agency capital planning responsibilities for assigned line ministries
• lead and perform complex research and analysis that support the development of infrastructure policies and programs related to the municipal sector
• regularly brief senior executives
• consult extensively with partner ministries and stakeholders

What you bring to the team


Technical expertise

• you have advanced knowledge and/or experience in economics, business administration or related disciplines (i.e. urban planning, social sciences, humanities, accounting)
• you have knowledge of public sector capital planning, allocation, policy development, and accounting

Communication and Analytical Skills

• you have exceptional analytical and writing skills and superior oral presentation, negotiation and consultation skills

Computer Skills

• you have expert knowledge and experience in the use of information technology and information management
• you have effective computer-based quantitative and graphics skills in order to undertake modelling, carry out spreadsheet analysis, prepare reports and correspondence, research and prepare confidential proposals, and communicate electronically

Project Management Skills

• you have demonstrated project management, organizational and motivational abilities to lead projects and portfolio assignments, making optimal use of other professional resources and inputs within and outside the government
