Are you a highly motivated, innovative professional with strong leadership and technical expertise in the field of civil engineering with the ability to lead and implement change in sectional and regional policy? If so, consider this excellent employment opportunity with the Ministry of Transportation with the Planning and Design Office where you will provide administrative, technical and financial leadership as well as expertise to ensure the development and design of effective and efficient transportation corridor systems within the Northeastern region.

About the job

In this position, you will:

• implement your co-ordination skills to control the activities of the Planning and Design Office while ensuring all transportation systems are adequately developed and protected;
• act as a Ministry official and will represent the Northeastern Region in all matters pertaining to preliminary and detail design of transportation facilities;
• ensure quality and the efficiency of the service provider and planning and design staff so that all projects are developed to best satisfy the highway users needs with minimum adverse effects on the environment;
• identify the annual Planning and Design budget requirements and ensure all expenditures are controlled.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirement:

• must be licensed by the Professional Engineers of Ontario

Technical skills:

• demonstrated knowledge of highway planning, design, drainage and construction practices and procedures and the ability to interpret and apply legislation, policy development, directives and standards related to highway planning, design, drainage and construction

Leadership skills:

• proven organizational, change management, leadership and management skills to administer and direct a large and diverse technical, administrative and professional staff

Analytical and communication skills:

• demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and reasoning skills to assess recommendations for technical adequacy and consistency with ministry policies
• proven interpersonal, communication skills to establish, maintain and negotiate effective relationships with senior staff, colleagues and stakeholders

Financial skills:

• demonstrated knowledge of estimating, forecasting and budgeting to provide cost effective program delivery
