About the job

• provide expert advice and guidance related to economic, environmental and social considerations of nuclear planning issues
• assess the impact of initiatives, analyses and the development of public policy options and strategies with respect to nuclear energy in Ontario, taking into consideration environmental impacts
• present recommendations to senior management and suggest strategies with policy or regulatory alternatives
• provide policy recommendations based on research and analyses of complex technical, licensing and economic aspects of nuclear energy
• consult with critical stakeholders and partners to support nuclear energy programs
• lead research and studies related to nuclear energy and manage research contracts

What you bring to the team


Technical Knowledge and Experience:

• you have knowledge of or experience working with theories, principles and techniques of public policy, economics, finance, energy-related regulatory principles in order to lead studies, research, analyses and development of policy options and strategies related to nuclear energy
• you have knowledge of or experience with environmental issues, regulatory issues, nuclear energy, and the energy industry in order to coordinate the Ministry's participation in and monitoring of federal approval processes and advise on provincial processes

Planning, Strategic Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills:

• you can identify and address contentious issues and questions requiring pre-emptive action
• you can suggest strategies for policy or regulatory alternatives

Communication, Interpersonal and Negotiation Skills:

• you can consult with internal and external stakeholders
• you can serve as technical advisor to project teams and participate on committees, task forces and discussion groups
• you can prepare and present briefings and policy implications of recommendations to senior executives

Analytical, Evaluative and Research Skills:

• you can assess the impact of initiatives and analyze and develop policy options related to nuclear energy, taking into consideration environmental impacts
• you can research and interpret a variety of legislation and regulations related to the energy sector to formulate advice
