In this role, you will use your skills to operate and maintain water and/or wastewater treatment projects within the Trent Valley Hub.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
Water and/or wastewater treatment certification is a requirement of the position. The specific license and level of the water and/or wastewater treatment certification is specific to the classification of the facilities that the position is operating. License requirements for this position are: Class 2 Water Treatment, Class 4 Wastewater Treatment, Class 2 Water Distribution & Supply, Class 2 Water Distribution & Class 2 Wastewater Collection. Consideration will be given to candidates with a willingness to obtain certification to the highest level of the facilities but must have at least a minimum of Operator-in-Training (OIT), as specified in O.Reg. 128/04 of the Safe Water Drinking Act and O.Reg. 129/04 of the Ontario Water Resources Act.
Valid Class G driver's license for all positions.
Must be available to be on-call after regular working hours.
Knowledge:
Good knowledge of water and/or wastewater treatment processes to operate the facilities.
Working experience/knowledge of the skilled trades for the maintenance and repair of a variety of equipment and structures, including basic electrical repair, welding, plumbing, millwright, gasfitting and steamfitting.
Good knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other relevant regulatory and legislative acts, codes, policies, guidelines and procedures related to water and/or wastewater operations and maintenance; health and safety procedures/WHMIS.
Knowledge of basic mathematics and chemistry to make calculations for chemical and operating processes.
Knowledge of maintenance manuals, blueprints and other technical specifications; use and storage of industrial chemicals.
Familiarity with computers, including monitoring and operating systems.
Skills and abilities include:
Analytical, problem-solving , planning and scheduling skills to inspect, operate and monitor the facilities processes and equipment, and perform routine preventive maintenance; take samples of the water and/or wastewater chemicals to make process control adjustments; resolve operating issues.
Good oral and written communication skills to liaise with a variety of staff, clients, suppliers, keep logs and complete reports. Proven oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative.
Ability to perform manual labour.
