The Ministry manages the program for the movement of hazardous waste as per Regulation 347, and that includes the requirement for hazardous waste generators to register annually, provision of generator manifests and payment of fees as per fees recovery system.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• • undertake technical review, approval and QA & QC of the Generator Registration Reports (GRR) for hazardous and liquid industrial waste
• assist in developing applicable policies and procedures, and address any queries from Ministry staff, industries and the public on GRR issues
• assist the Unit Supervisor in developing and administering programs for the control of liquid industrial and hazardous waste, and the Hazardous Waste Information System and Network (HWIS/ HWIN)
• provide technical expertise on GRR and manifest matters and resolve technical problems

What you bring to the team


Technical Knowledge:

• You have in-depth knowledge of Regulation 347 and related legislation to provide interpretation and guidance to clients
• You have knowledge of environmental protection and waste treatments
• You have knowledge and experience in assessing the origin, nature and toxicity of waste and environmental impacts of their various methods of treatment and disposal

Analytical, Problem-Solving Skills and Judgement:

• You are able to evaluate and select the appropriate waste classification for proper management of hazardous waste and resolve conflicting positions (e.g. waste classification and waste disposal options)
• You can adapt and revise procedures to resolve problems as related to transportation and disposal of waste

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• You are able to provide clear, concise explanations of the technical procedures to clients
• You can establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, associates, government officials and private sector

Organizational Skills:

• You are able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision to work in a high volume, multi-task and team environment

Computer Skills:

• You have office computer and database skills (e.g. MS Office, SQL Navigator, MS Access) to extract, manipulate and analyze data, prepare correspondence, table and reports.
