The Ministry of the Attorney General, Legal Services Division, is seeking counsel to manage a heavy caseload in the areas of Child Welfare and Children's Residential Licensing (under the Child and Family Services Act).

About the job

Duties Will Include: Providing strategic legal advice to the MCYS policy and operations divisions regarding the appropriate interpretation of provisions under the Child and Family Services Act and its regulations, programs funded under MCYS, including Special Services at Home for children and respite services. Preparing Notices of Intention and providing litigation support to litigation counsel on children's residential licensing cases and appeals to the Licence Appeal Tribunal. Providing litigation support to CLOC/CLB counsel as necessary in the child welfare, children's residential licensing and children's developmental services areas. The position also responds to human rights applications. Working with clients and Legislative counsel respecting any proposed changes to legislation/regulations. Regular training for clients in the program areas and both formal and informal training throughout the year.

Membership in the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Knowledge and Skills

experience providing legal advice and services in the areas of CFSA, child welfare, residential licensing, children's developmental services, human rights and administrative law. Excellent oral and written communication skills, analytical skills and sound judgment. Ability to inspire client confidence and to work effectively as team member. Flexibility, creativity, ability to function successfully in fast-paced environment.
