The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Ontario Provincial Police, seeks a qualified person to assist in the recovery and restoration of used police equipment and accessories removed from trade-in vehicles, prepare new vehicles and to perform general garage duties by performing various semi-skilled mechanical tasks.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation.
Valid Ontario Class G Drivers License.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of basic automotive theories to perform basic equipment maintenance, repair and refurbishing, to determine the nature and extent of repairs and maintenance and to assist skilled tradespersons with upkeep and repair duties.

Knowledge of basic understanding of decal application.

Knowledge of technical manuals and maintenance policies to perform work that adheres to appropriate established maintenance schedules and repair authorization procedures.

Knowledge of variety of hand tools to perform maintenance tasks.

Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act to follow safe work practices and ability to coordinate the receipt of all used police equipment and accessories stripped from trade in vehicles.

Oral communication skills to alert and provide information to skilled tradespersons of maintenance problems and togather/discuss information from other maintenance staff regarding technical problems.

Ability to diagnose and test electrical equipment to determine the extent of repair/refurbishing.

Ability to perform repair to vehicle wiring systems and refurbishing police electrical equipment and would alert supervisor of involved problems for assessment.
