The Infrastructure Policy Branch is looking for an Economist to contribute to the development and implementation of provincial infrastructure policies and programs related to health, social and justice infrastructure.

About the job

In this role, you will:
• plan and conduct complex policy, statistical and socio-economic research and financial analysis
• provide strategic policy analysis, advice and expertise regarding health, social and justice infrastructure
• manipulate and compile data using qualitative and quantitative analysis
• identify and analyze contentious issues and provide options and recommendations to senior management
• prepare and present research findings, policy options, briefings to senior executives
• establish a network of internal and external contacts and manage effective working relationships with stakeholders

What you bring to the team

Technical Expertise:

You have:
• expert knowledge of microeconomic theory, public finance, economics, business administration or a related discipline in order to develop appropriate policy options through complex policy, statistical and socio-economic research and financial analysis
• knowledge of infrastructure policy and planning for one or more of the health, social and justice infrastructure sectors, in order to recommend policy options or the development of new policies, legislation or regulations
• knowledge of policy development and decision-making processes in order to recommend and develop policy options and strategies for implementation
• expert knowledge of research methods, techniques and principles, including qualitative and quantitative research methods and techniques, in order to plan and conduct research for projects and initiatives related to health, social and justice infrastructure

Communication, Consultation, Presentation, and Interpersonal Skills:

You can:
• provide information and advice on research methods, findings and conclusions, including presenting options and recommendations to senior management and decision makers.
• discuss related policy and program issues and options
• represent the Ministry on corporate committees, meetings and work teams
• prepare and present written materials such as papers and reports on research findings, briefing notes, presentation materials, ministerial correspondence, tables, spreadsheets and business cases

Issues Management and Problem Solving Skills:

• you can identify issues that could have significant implications on the development of new policies or the review of existing policies
• you can monitor issues, brief senior management and provide advice, options, and recommendations to be considered in the decision-making process

Project Management, Planning and Organizational Skills:

• you can manage and coordinate research projects involving internal and external stakeholders
• you can participate on corporate and cross-functional projects
